Easter Greetings! - The Origin of the Easter Bunny

From the desk of Leah Calnan - Director, Metro Property Management

The team at Metro Property Management would like to wish you and your family a very Happy Easter and a safe and happy long weekend.

We here in the office were having a chat the other day about how the Easter Bunny tradition came about and so we felt we would share the answer with you too...

The Easter bunny has its origin in pre-Christian fertility lore. The Hare and the Rabbit were the most fertile animals known and they served as symbols of the new life during the Spring season.

The bunny as an Easter symbol seems to have its origins in Germany, where it was first mentioned in German writings in the 1500s. The first edible Easter bunnies were made in Germany during the early 1800s and were made of pastry and sugar. The Easter bunny was introduced to American folklore by the German settlers who arrived in the Pennsylvania Dutch country during the 1700s.

The arrival of the "Oschter Haws" (Easter Bunny) was considered "childhood's greatest pleasure" next to a visit from Christ-Kindel on Christmas Eve. The children believed that if they were good the "Oschter Haws" would lay a nest of coloured eggs.

The children would build their nest in a secluded place in the home, the barn or the garden. Boys would use their caps and girls their bonnets to make the nests. The use of elaborate Easter baskets would come later as the tradition of the Easter bunny spread through out the country.

Industry Passion

From the desk of Leah Calnan, Director of Metro Property Management

I love what I do for a living! I love it with a passion! I love the team I work with and I love the thrill of having successful outcomes for all clients, both owners and tenants.

Do we always get it right? Not a chance!

We are humans too and sometimes mistakes occur but there are so many ways of resolving a mistake.

Firstly, why don't people talk anymore? I mean, really talk...We all hide behind emails and write in capitals, yet put those 2 people face to face - what a difference it would make!!

Secondly, acknowledge human error and move on. It's not intentional, nor is it deliberate.

Finally, life is so very short. What you had today could be gone tomorrow!! How many times has the smallest matter been blown so completely out of control - sometimes we just need to let it go... I am sure you will feel better for it!!

When is your best enough?

From the Desk of Leah Calnan, Director of Metro Property Management...

Have you ever stopped in the middle of something and asked yourself - Is my best enough?
Does this question arise because of our own insecurities or is it based on other people's perception?

When you visit a fast food restaurant and you must wait 3-5 minutes for your meal, why are we so impatient?

Shouldn't we give the person making our meal a break? Perhaps they are doing their best? Only within ourselves can we honestly say, I did my best and that's truly all anyone can ask for!

In the Pursuit of Rental Growth

In the current March Issue of Australian Property Investor magazine our very own Leah Calnan offered some great advice for those investors searching for locations with the potential for rental growth.

Leah touches on investigating ‘Days on Market’, marketing and the public reaction via internet interest and by attending open homes, adding sought after property features, the importance of maintaining or creating that fresh ‘new’ feel of a property. Leah also discusses the importance of ‘lifestyle appeal’, noting changes in demographics and speaking with your property managers to tap into their knowledge before purchasing your next investment.

If you’d like to chat with Leah regarding your investment or a prospective investment, please feel free to contact her on (03) 9831 3000 or 0412 359 032. Visit our website or for more info on the API magazine visit
